The MAPIR T4P-R125 Waterproof Diffuse Reflectance Standard Calibration Ground Target can be used with almost any multispectral camera and software system. Unlike a simple ‘sunlight sensor’ this helps provide highly accurate calibrated results essential for multi-season or scientific analysis.
The T4P-R125 comprises four special 50mm x 50mm painted aluminium targets of known reflectance housed in an IP67 case. It is more durable than the standard T4-R125 (with felt targets) and perfect for outdoor and dirty environments since it can be cleaned with a soft brush and water. Once dried it retains its listed reflectance calibration*.
To use, before each flight capture a full image of the entire target with no shadows using each camera. The lambertian reflectance panels can be captured from any angle thanks to similar diffuse and total reflection properties, however capturing straight-on is recommended. After the flight import the images into your chosen software. Mapir’s MCC and Chloros computer vision software automatically finds the QR symbol on the target images and calculates the pixel to reflectance relationship using the known target material reflectance percentage*. If you are not using Chloros then you can download calibration data download here and use it with other software. The target will improve the normalisation of your surveys over time and locations. Smaller T4P-R25 and T4P-R50 waterproof targets are also available as well as lower cost targets using calibrated felt like materials.
*Measurements from 350-2500nm were made using calibrated spectrometers.
